Kids Into Music, administered jointly by the Music Teachers' Association of California, San Diego Branch and the Helen B. Goodlin Foundation, is a scholarship program that makes music lessons available to talented students through the age of 18 in San Diego County who otherwise could not afford them.
This program will provide financial support for private lessons in any instrument or voice to talented music students who reside in San Diego County, ages 4 – 18. The applicant will be selected by the Goodlin-KIM Committee of the Music Teachers’ Association of California, San Diego County Branch. The selection criteria include but are not limited to: the student’s musical ability and talent, financial need, and academic standing in school.
In Memoriam - Aryana Pizarro (2006-2018) and Aileen Pizarro (1974-2018)
We are all saddened by the loss of Aryana and her supportive mother Aileen in a tragic highway accident on August 23, 2018. Aryana had been a talented recipient of the Kids Into Music scholarship program for the past two years.

Upon reviewing the application material, the Goodlin-KIM Committee may schedule an interview with the student and the parent/guardian.
The amount of the lesson scholarship awards will be determined by the Committee on case-by-case basis, based on the financial need, the level of instruction appropriate for the student, and the availability of funds.
Students accepted in the KIM program, and receiving financial support for instruction, are encouraged to participate in at least one MTAC music program per year to demonstrate music ability and progress.
The parent/guardian must agree to schedule regular lessons with the teacher and arrange transportation to the scheduled lessons. The KIM scholarship recipient must request an annual renewal of funds, approval for which will be based upon the student’s progress and the availability of funds.

The KIM scholarship program is currently suspended as of the end of the 2022-23 season.
